How to Group Rows in a Database

Updated over 10 months ago

Grouping allows you to organize rows in a database into separate groups based on “single” and “multiple select” fields.

How to Start Grouping

To start grouping, create a grouping condition. A group condition tells the grouping feature which field to group by. To create a group condition, do the following:

  1. Click on the “Group” button near the top left of the database.

  2. Then select the field you want to group by.

Once grouping is turned on, the “Group” button will be highlighted.

Pro tip: You can click on the dropdown arrow on the left side of a group to expand or collapse the rows inside it.

Multi-Level Grouping

You can group up to three fields simultaneously.

How Multi-Level Grouping Works

When you group using multiple conditions, each group will be nested beneath the previous one. The order of the nesting is based off of the order of the grouping conditions.

How to Add Multiple Group Conditions

  1. With one grouping condition already set, you can now add another by clicking on the “Add subgroup” button.

  2. After clicking the “Add subgroup” button, choose the field that you want the next grouping condition to group by.

How to Reorder Group Conditions

When you have more than one grouping condition enabled, a six-dot drag and drop handle icon will appear on the right side of the grouping condition. Click and drag from this icon to reorder the grouping conditions. The organization of the groups will automatically update when you finish dragging and dropping.

How to Stop Grouping

  1. Click on the “Group” button near the top left of the database.

  2. Click on the “trash can” icon to the right each of the grouping conditions.
