How to create bi-directional links between pages

Bi-directional links allow you to link pages together. Once a bi-directional link between pages has been created, the link works both ways, allowing you to access both pages.

Here are the following ways to create bi-directional links in Speare.

Creating Bi-Directional Links Using the Double-Bracket Shortcut

Type [[ anywhere on a page and then type the name of a page you want it to link to or create a new one using the “Create new page” option at the top of the link popup.

Pro Tip: To link text to a page quickly, select the text that you want to be linked to another page, and then press [[ . See the example below.

Note: If you use the double-bracket shortcut to create a link to a page on a blank line, the link created will be a page link block.

Creating Bi-Directional Links Using the Text Editing Toolbar

  1. Select the text that you want to be linked to another page

  2. Click on the “link“ icon on the Text Editing Toolbar that appears.

  3. Then search for an existing page to link to or create a new one.

Creating Bi-Directional Links with a Page Link Block

  1. Type / anywhere on a page and then select the “Link to page” option from the command menu.

  2. Then search for an existing page to link to or create a new one.

Note: If you use the double-bracket shortcut to create a link to a page on a blank line, the link created will be a page link block.

How to View the Backlinks for a Page

Backlinks allow you to see all of the links that are pointed at a particular page. To access the list of backlinks for a page, do the following:

  1. Click on the “link” icon on the header of the page. (If the page has no backlinks, this “link” icon will not be displayed.)

  2. You can then click on the backlinks in the list to view them in the side peek panel.

How to Delete a Bi-Directional Link

  1. Hover over the bi-directional link that you want to delete.

  2. Then click on the “trashcan“ icon on the link hover popup that appears.
